10 Things to Do in Cardiff Wales
National Museum Cardiff
Bonus tip – this museum is free to enter! Always great for the budget travelers. The museum is ideal for families or tourists alike. Housing national art, geology and history collections they are all fascinating!
The park is situated along the Cardiff Castle so it’s quite a lovely stroll through seeing the park on one side and the Castle on the other. Why not visit the park – maybe bring a picnic basket and enjoy a lovely lunch?
After the park why not check out Cardiff Castle. You can stroll along the castle wall, dubbed “animal wall”, due to the variety of animal statues on the wall. There is a fee to enter the Castle and tour the inside – or if you’re tight on a budget just enjoy from the outside.
No stop to Cardiff is complete without visiting the bustling arcades throughout the city. Cardiff is well known as the “City of Arcades” as it has so many to stroll through. My favorite is without a doubt the Royal Arcade.
Cardiff Central Market
If you’re a fan of flea markets be sure to check out the Cardiff Market. Its a one stop shop kind of place – you can find an array of products, from old school records, to pots and pans, tasty sandwiches or fresh fish of the day!
For all my Dr. Who fans – hold on to your hats, because you can visit a film site from the show in little old Cardiff. Located just outside the city center this is a must see!
Cardiff Bay & Mermaid Quay
Mermaid Quay overlooks the waterfront, filled with vibrant restaurants and shops. On a summer’s eve you’re sure to see it bustling with people strolling around.
Right in the heart of Mermaid Quay is The Senedd – a Parliament House which is free to tour. The Senedd houses the debating chamber and three committee rooms for the National Assembly for Wales.
Roald Dahl Plass
Ever heard of James and the Giant Peach? Matilda? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? They’re all thanks to the literary genius that is Roald Dahl. If you’re a fan and want to reminisce on your childhood, be sure to grab a photo of the Roald Dahl Plass located right in the middle of Mermaid Quay.
Cardiff Christmas Market
If you’re in Cardiff around Christmastime – you definitely want to take a stroll through the Christmas Market. Spend the evening strolling through the stalls, sample some local Welsh cheese, purchase some handmade glass blown ornaments, or grab a tasty Nutella filled crepe for dessert!
